Strange Religion by The-Mirrorball-Man Strange Religion by The-Mirrorball-Man
I was in Vatican City last summer, and among many other things I saw this painting [link] , which is a series of scenes from the Last Judgement.

As I was looking at it, I suddenly saw myself submerged by a singular feeling of alienness: what would one feel, when looking at this painting, if they had absolutely no religious education whatsoever? How would they relate to it? How would they interpret the symbolism? Would they understand the story? Would they just be completely lost?

This deviation is my attempt at evoking a similar feeling.

---

I'd thought that it's some sort of an epos. Like Ramayana or something like this with trickster-like main character.

Marvelous! You evoked to feeling completely. I've had a religious education so when I look at the painting in churches I usually know what's going on, but this is like trying to understand Aztec for me.

I love the idea here. I've often thought about how our cultures must seem to outsiders.

Fascinating!

This is quite interesting. Its fun to see what sorts of interpretations people can have on things like this - on all of religious thought. I definitely agree with some that religion is merely an art form; its creative and beautifully complex yet simple, and its meanings all derive on what people make of it. An art form designed to give some peace of mind, but raise questions too. :)

Excellent work!

Great concept! It really does make you consider the arbitrary nature of religion. Regardless of the content, it is still largely a fabrication.

No one can really say for certain fact which religion is correct and which is not.

Bon travail!

Ooohm freeware! Where (or, ware, if you like) could I find this?

I suppose I should try my hand at interpreting the story.

In the beginning, the gods watched man, their eyes in the heavens. Then, the Bright God, Wind God, sent the lightning of Enlightenment down to a man. His name was... erm, Bob. The Dark God, Flame God, grew jealous. He sent the Taint down into the hearts of those in power. Bob assembled a group of faithful disciples, but htey were met with ahrrassment at every turn by the servants of Flame God.

The Villagers, moved to wrath by their Tainted leaders, chained Bob to the Great X, and left him to die of exposure while his Disciples and Acolytes watched. He dies, acended to his Father, and was sent back. He conjured the Flies of Retribution with the Staf of the Shepherd, and loosed them upon the crops of the Flame-Tainted.

He wed his First Disciple, giving her the Wedding Rig of Eternal Cycle.

He turned away those demons of the Flame thaat tempted and harried him as he Purified himself in Water.

He made peace with the Unhallowed Dead, and sent them to their rest.

He then lead his follwers in battle with the Flame-tainted, who had assembled a Mighty Army.

He then went into the very depths of Hell, fighting the Ant Demons of the Primordial Darkness (that which was corrupt before Fire God), and slating them as the Primoridal Darkness watched in impotent rage, for lo! they were bound eons ago,

True.

And thanks.

"And know ye that green is the color of life, and green is life, as has been decreed by Wind God, and those who are Tainted shall flee from it, for they understand the green not.
