Description

So. I used to do a weekly comic strip called "My Life in Flux". These days, I'm too busy and I no longer have the time to do that. I still have an itch to scratch though, and I've been looking for different ways to quench my comic-thirst.

Back in the day, several deviants, chief among them ~laresistance encouraged me to use the "Flux" characters outside the confines of the comic strip, and to try my hand at telling a longer story. Paradoxically, I found out that drawing a full comic page doesn't take as much time as drawing a four-panel comic strip, especially since "Flux" used to be visually quite ambitious, while this project is much more loosely drawn, inspired by Bastien Vives and Gilbert Hernandez. Every page takes me 1-2 hours, while every strip used to take me 2-3 hours. For the pages, I used the old Zuda Comics format.

So the result is a 12-page story focusing on one of my old "Flux" characters, the lovely Panzera, when she was 16 years old. It's not meant to be funny, it’s bittersweet. It's quite different from the old strip. In fact, I had a completely different story in mind when I started the project, but it was too ambitious for a trial run. I may draw it one day if this is popular enough.

I'll be posting one page every Monday in the next couple of weeks. I'd appreciate your support and your comments, since this is such a new artistic endeavor for me.

1.
Panzera: Je pensais être si forte à l’époque.
Rocco: Eh toi! La diablesse!
2.
Rocco: Tu fumes, la diablesse?
3.
Rocco: Tu veux fumer?
4.

Autrefois, je dessinais un comic strip hebdomadaire qui s’appelait "My Life in Flux".

Chaque page me prend ici 1-2 heures, alors que chaque strip me réclamait 2-3 heures.

OK, first off, I have to say that I have always been a fan of your comic style.

Presentation:
I like your use of black and white in the comic. The line work is appropriately rough in places, giving the comic a natural feel to it. The use of heavy black, especially in the first panel, gives a definitive feel for the lighting in the scene. Also, the use of a grey toned background helps separate the characters from the scenery.

Characterization:
Panz's rendering is very emotive. I like how you used the simple "dot" eyes in the third panel to relate her reaction to the repeated question. Her face at the end softens, and the plucking of her top gives the impression of innocence and insecurity which echos the nervous attitude she has in the first panel.

The dude is perfectly stoic. The use of duped images gives him a persistent look that reflects his repeated badgering about smoking. I get the impression that he is using the line as either a pick up line or a euphemism for another act.

Overall:
This comic shows a lot of thought, good characterizations, and appealing art. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
